A printed Mk.IX bomb sight for the Baltimore model in 1:48 scale, intended for Special Hobby kits.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Mk.IX bomb sight was the instrument with which a bombardier determined the moment of release. On the Baltimore it sat in the glazed nose, that is in a place clearly visible on a finished model. A small part of this kind therefore affects the final impression more than its size would suggest.
The Mk.IX sight for the Baltimore model in 1:48 scale, made by 3D printing and intended for Special Hobby kits. A printed part has no casting blocks, as it is held by print supports that are removed before building. The material is not polystyrene, so it is glued with cyanoacrylate glue rather than with cement for plastic models.
Cut the supports off with a sharp blade a little away from the part, sand the remainder with fine sandpaper and work over a mat so that the small part is not lost. Wash and degrease it before painting and apply the primer in a thin coat, otherwise the fine structure will be lost. Seat the sight in the nose before closing the fuselage and check, before you glue the glazing on, that it is visible the way you want.
The set is for the modeler who builds the Baltimore in 1:48 scale and wants a believable instrument in the glazed nose instead of a simplified plastic part. The work takes only a short while, but the result shows when you look into the nose. The set also goes well with other work on the interior of the forward part of the aircraft.
The model, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
