Traffic Red RAL 3020 is a clean, strongly saturated signal red defined by the RAL standard. It is a water-thinnable acrylic paint from the Aqua line of the Slovak maker Mr.Paint, in a dropper bottle with a volume of 17 ml. It is intended for the brush and the airbrush and works best applied straight from the bottle, without thinning. It is thinned with water, or with the acrylic thinner of the same line — never with lacquer thinner. Once dry it holds a durable, well adhering film that takes masking tape.
The manufacturer lists this shade in the group of basic signal colors according to RAL — alongside traffic yellow, signal blue and signal brown. It is therefore not a color tied to a particular army or period; RAL is a standard of shade, not a period classification. It suits anywhere you need a reliably defined, unmuted red.
Red covers worst of all shades. Applied straight onto gray, dark or bare plastic it looks brown and dirty for a long time, and before you reach full saturation you will lay down a needlessly thick coat that clogs detail. The solution is simple: put down a light base first — a white primer, or better still a light pink one (white with a drop of this red). Over that the shade comes out saturated and clean in two or three thin coats. Several thin passes are always better than one heavy spray. Shake the bottle properly before spraying — the pigment settles at the bottom.
For modelers who want a saturated and unambiguously defined red according to RAL and prefer odorless acrylic chemistry thinnable with water. Usable with a brush for detailing and in an airbrush on larger areas.
A modeling paint, not a kit. Keep out of the reach of children and close the container carefully after use. Work in a ventilated room and use a respirator when airbrushing — the mist of atomized paint should not be inhaled.
