The photo-etched Msta-S fenders 1:35 set replaces the fenders and their fittings on a model of the Russian 152 mm self-propelled howitzer. It is not a vehicle kit but an accessory for a model.
Responsibility details are not available.
A set of photo-etched parts covering the fenders of a model of the Msta-S self-propelled howitzer in 1:35 scale. The fenders are among the parts where the difference between plastic and sheet metal is most visible: in reality they are thin sheet pressings with stiffeners and with fittings attached, whereas an injection-molded part has to be several times thicker because of the process. The photo-etched version holds the correct thickness and can also be shaped, so a fender can be bent or damaged in the way that commonly happens to vehicles in service.
The Msta-S is a Russian tracked 152 mm self-propelled howitzer with a rotating turret, drawing structurally on the components of the tracked vehicles of its generation. It serves as artillery support and is listed under the designation 2S19. The vehicle carries part of its external fittings and tanks on the fenders, so this part of the hull is visually very prominent and is worth attention during a build.
The original plastic fenders normally have to be cut off and the area leveled; plan the procedure out in advance, because it is an irreversible step. Cut the photo-etched parts out close to the tab and sand the edge down. Make the bends and stiffeners in a bender or over a steel rule; shape the bend of a fender over a round rod, carefully and in small steps. Degrease the metal with alcohol and lay on a thin primer. Finish the painting before the fittings are mounted. It is on the fenders that weathering comes into its own most: a wash into the seams, dust pigments and gently chipped edges.
