Type A from the range of turnbuckles with an anchor

Models of aircraft from the days when wings were braced against each other with cables and wires stand or fall on how exactly that bracing looks. The set offers a turnbuckle together with an anchor part, that is the element with which a cable was fastened and tightened on the real machine. In a kit it tends to be suggested only by shallow relief, or to be missing altogether.

What it gains you on the model

A stretched filament looks flat on its own. As soon as a turnbuckle and an anchor are set into it, the bracing gains scale and depth and the model stands up to a close look and to a photograph. The range distinguishes two versions, type A and type B, and this item is type A.

Building and painting tips

• The parts are not polystyrene, so they are glued with super glue, not with liquid cement for plastic.
• Cut the surplus material off with a sharp blade a little way from the part and sand the remainder carefully.
• Wash and degrease the parts before painting, so that the paint holds.
• Fit them with tweezers and thread the filament through the eye; only then secure the joint with a drop of glue.

For more experienced builders who have stretched bracing before and want to take it further. Anyone building a biplane for the first time should count on parts of this size being slow work, one piece at a time.
