Finished scenery growth whose shape and color are adapted to a grassed embankment, that is to a sloped area along a road, rails or a watercourse. The early summer version means richly green vegetation at full strength, still before summer drying. The material is simply laid down and glued, with nothing to build.
An embankment is a rewarding element in a diorama: it adds a difference in height, separates two levels of a scene and gives the composition direction. It comes into its own at railroad track, at a road carried on an embankment, at the bank of a stream or a ditch and when building breaks in terrain. The rich green coloring of early summer suits scenes with lush vegetation and contrasts excellently with gray ballast and concrete.
Lay the growth only onto finished, painted and dusted terrain. Try the intended spot dry first, tear or cut the piece to an irregular shape as needed, since a sharp straight edge does not arise in nature. It is glued with PVA wood glue, and a drop of cyanoacrylate will serve for a firm hold on a hard substrate. Hide the transition between the growth and the surrounding soil with a sprinkled fine scatter, grit or pigment, so that the growth does not look like a glued-on carpet. You can match the coloring with a light overspray of heavily thinned paint from above or by dusting with pigment, always only very lightly and once dry. On a slope it is important to hold the growth down while it dries, otherwise it pulls away from the substrate. Applying the glue over the area and weighting the piece for a few minutes proves itself, or else pinning it temporarily.
