Modeling magnets from Green Stuff World. The package holds fifty neodymium magnets eight millimeters in diameter and two in height, in the grade designated N35. They are used wherever a joint is meant to come apart: for holding a turret on a hull, armament on pylons, figures on bases or a model on a transport board.

What it is suited to

Magnetic mounting solves two things at once. It lets you swap a part of a model without glue, so one build yields several variants, and at the same time it protects fragile parts in transport, because they can be taken off. With figures in games, magnets are used to hold them on a metal board, where nothing then gets knocked over. Magnets of this size are small enough to disappear inside the hull of a model or in a base.

How to work with magnets

• mark the poles before gluing; magnets turned the wrong way will repel each other
• drill the hole to the exact diameter and set the magnet flush with the surface
• glue with super glue; a gap-filling compound helps
• do not drop the magnets on the floor; they are brittle and the edges chip
• to part two magnets, slide them sideways rather than pulling them apart
• do not store them near cards, watches and electronics
• allow for the thickness of the glue when drilling the hole; the magnet must not stand proud

Magnets are not a toy. Swallowing several magnets is life-threatening for children and animals alike, so keep them out of their reach.
