Patches and running traces can be created even on vertical areas, where ordinary dust will not hold, by the Weathering Stains Powder Pigment dry pigment from Lifecolor.
Responsibility details are not available.
A dry powder pigment from Lifecolor aimed at local dirt, that is, at patches and running traces rather than at dust across an area. It is laid on dry with a brush and used deliberately, over small areas, exactly where something on a real machine leaks, drips or settles around service openings.
Working on vertical areas
A dry pigment will hold on a vertical wall only if it has something to catch on. That is why this technique is not worked on a smooth area but at the edges of hatches, in engraved lines, under ventilation grilles, around tank caps, at hinges and above welds. From there the pigment is drawn downward in short strokes. Make the strokes shorter than would seem reasonable and let them fade out; a stain should be dense at the top and lose itself toward the bottom.
Where not to make traces
Overdoing the effect commonly happens by running the traces evenly over a whole wall. A real trace always has a source. When there is no hatch, grille, seam or cap above it, the eye can tell and the model looks artificial. Equally, there is no point running traces across areas that are wiped regularly. Wipe the excess pigment off with a dry brush in the direction of running, never across, or you will smear the trace into a vague smudge.
A dry pigment is a loose powder. Do not work with it in a draft, do not breathe it in, do not blow the excess off with your mouth and wash your hands after work. Keep out of the reach of children.
