Constructo Porthole 8 mm is a set of six round ship portholes of 8 mm diameter, that is, small fittings for building wooden ship models.
Responsibility details are not available.
The package holds six round portholes of 8 mm diameter. It is not a model or a ship kit, but a small fitting with which the hull or the superstructure of a wooden model is completed. Constructo supplies separate fittings alongside its wooden kits, so a builder can add the parts that are missing from the basic set or replace the ones they are not happy with.
Portholes of this type are set into the sides of a hull, into the stern or into the walls of superstructures. On a wooden model the opening is first pre-drilled and cleaned up, and only then is the porthole glued in so that its edge seats cleanly on the planking. On a build from a historic subject the placement follows the plan of the particular ship rather than an even division of the side, because portholes on real vessels follow the internal arrangement of the decks and cabins.
Small fittings hold best with super glue or epoxy; PVA wood glue does not hold on the smooth surface of a fitting. Degrease the surface to be glued beforehand and free it of sanding dust. If you want to keep the metal look, polish the part and seal it with varnish; when painting, use a primer meant for metal, otherwise the paint takes badly on a smooth surface. Glazing is usually imitated with a drop of clear glue or a piece cut from thin transparent film.
The accessory is supplied unpainted. Glue, paints and further parts are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
