A thin styrene strip 0.3 x 1.7 mm derived from the dimensions of lumber in HO railway scale. Suited to plank siding, fences and formwork.

The size 0.3 x 1.7 mm was not picked at random. It comes from tables of construction lumber converted into HO scale, that is 1:87, where this section matches a plank roughly fifteen centimeters wide and an inch thick. Anyone building a loading dock, a paddock fence or the boarding of a truck bed gets a size that looks believable on the model, because it really does copy a full-size original.
Three tenths of a millimeter mean you can cut the strip with ordinary scissors and bend it over your finger. That is exactly why it wraps curved surfaces so well. Put the cement on the base, not on the strip – the solvent would buckle it in your fingers before you managed to lay it down. Trim the overhanging end only once the cement has set and the part is fixed in place.
The impression of wood is drawn out of white styrene by scribing. A few irregular strokes with a needle along the long axis, followed by a dry brush in two brown tones, turn smooth plastic into a weathered plank more reliably than any paint applied on its own. Anyone siding a larger area alternates pieces with deeper and shallower scribing so the pattern does not repeat regularly.
Sanding the edge sharpens the transition between individual planks.
