Why nippers and pliers need looking after
Modeling nippers with a thin single-bevel edge are the most delicate tool on the bench. They get put into a drawer with files, the edge strikes other metal and a nick appears that then prints into every part you cut off. The second enemy is damp: polished steel with no protection starts to corrode even in an ordinary room, and rust on the edge means the end of a clean cut. A sleeve deals with the first risk, oil with the second.
It will be appreciated by a modeler who has bought good nippers and wants them to last, and also by anyone who takes tools along to modeling meetings. It is a practical addition to bench equipment, not an aid that would affect the building of a model itself.
Apply the oil only to the metal parts of a tool and in a thin layer. It must not get onto the plastic parts of a model, onto glued joints or onto surfaces to be painted, because paint does not hold on a greasy surface.
