RAF Blue-Grey is a gray with a distinct blue cast. The number 633 places it in the British standard color reference BS 381C, that is, in the table that British regulations cite for the finishes of vehicles and equipment. In practice the number is more valuable than the name: by it you can compare the shade with a paint from another range, whereas a verbal description differs with every maker and a blue-gray can mean all sorts of things.
The natural place is British subject matter, which the designation of the shade itself points to. A blue-gray tone suits anywhere a pure gray would look dead: on surfaces that are meant to have a cool cast, on equipment, on airfield installations and on parts in shadow. Always judge the exact tone by the color chart and the label, not by an image on a screen, and check the finish of a particular machine in your references, because the same shade name could be read differently in different periods.
