RAF DARK CAMOUFLAGE GREY BS381C/629 – AIR

RAF Dark Camouflage Grey BS381C/629 - an AK interactive acrylic paint

A water-thinnable acrylic paint in a bottle for aircraft models. The shade is carried under the British color standard and within the range it forms the natural counterpart to the lighter British grays with which it is combined in gray camouflage schemes. On a model it is used on the upper surfaces, or as the darker part of a two-tone scheme.

Use

• A dark shade looks darker over the small area of a model than on a real aircraft. If you build in a smaller scale, it pays to lighten the paint gently for large areas and to keep the pure shade for the shadows and the edges of panels.
• As the darker part of a scheme it is usually sprayed after the light color. Keep the transition soft and hold the airbrush further from the surface; a hard edge from tape belongs only where the scheme had one.
• A dark coat suppresses the engraving. Deal with panel lines only after sealing with varnish, using a thin flowing shade rather than a thick wash.
• The paint also works as a dark base for modulation: overspray the middle of the areas with a lighter tone and let the original shade show through at the wing roots and along the seams.

Who the paint is for

For modelers of British subjects who need the dark component of a gray camouflage scheme and want it defined by a standard number rather than by guesswork. The paint is an acrylic and is thinned with water or with acrylic thinner. The manufacturer has the same shade in the Real Colors lacquer range as well, but that one is solvent-based and neither mixes with this bottle nor takes the same thinner.

Shake the bottle before work. Spray in a ventilated space and with respiratory protection, and store it closed, away from frost and out of the reach of children.
