What the color is for

Russian Sand is a sand shade carried under the part number AK11370 in the AK 3rd Generation acrylic range. The abbreviation AFV in the name denotes armored fighting vehicles, which the shade is aimed at according to the manufacturer, and the word Russian assigns it to Russian and Soviet machines. It comes into use on the base areas of vehicles in desert and dry schemes and as a lighter tone when grading large areas.

Thinning and application

Stir the contents of the container properly before use, as the pigment settles at the bottom while standing. The AK 3rd Generation range is acrylic and is thinned with water or with the thinner intended for this range; the thinning ratio and the recommended method of application are stated by the manufacturer on the packaging. Spray several light coats and let each one set, as one heavy coat floods fine relief and tears when masking. With a brush, work quickly and do not go back into an area that has started to set, otherwise you will pull the stroke apart.

Tips for painting vehicles

Wash and degrease the model before painting and go over it with a base color, which will unify a base of plastic, metal and resin. A uniform sand area on a large vehicle looks dead, so lighten the shade slightly at the centers of the areas and leave a darker tone toward the edges and the gaps; the model thus gains depth even before dirt and dust are applied. Let the coat cure properly, and only then apply decals to it and go on to further layers. Close the container immediately after work and keep it dry and away from frost.
