Rusty Brass 17 ml - an AK interactive acrylic metallic

Rusty Brass is a water-based acrylic paint from the 3rd Generation range of the AK interactive brand, supplied in a bottle holding 17 ml. The shade aims at tarnished brass, that is metal which is no longer new and polished but has its tone shifted toward brown and toward matte. Besides the color pigment it also contains fine metal particles, thanks to which the surface reads as metal once dry without any further polishing. It is not a weathering product or a wash but a full covering paint for brush and airbrush alike.

Stirring in the bottle

With metallics the heavier particles settle to the bottom considerably faster than with ordinary shades, so the order is always the same: stir first, thin afterwards. Stir the bottle long and honestly, not just a couple of flicks of the wrist, until the sediment on the bottom stops resisting and the paint has the same consistency throughout. A mixing ball or a wooden stick run several times along the bottom helps. When the session goes on longer, stir again, because from an unstirred bottle you will draw either thin binder with no metallic look or, conversely, an overthick paste that leaves brush marks.

Use

• Fittings, hinges, piping and hardware on vehicles, ships and diorama accessories.
• Cartridge cases, housings and small details that should look used.
• Drybrushing over a dark base to pull out edges and worn spots.
• Thinned with water or with acrylic thinner of the same brand, applied with brush and airbrush.
• Metallic shades are hard to mask and to overspray, so it makes sense to leave them until the end of painting.
