Photo-etched ship stairs for ship models in scales roughly from 1:75 to 1:200. The accessory replaces coarsely made or entirely missing stairs on the deck.
Responsibility details are not available.
Stairs are among the elements on a deck that the eye finds at once. In a kit they tend to be only a thick solid part with suggested treads, because a thinner profile cannot be made from a plastic part. An etched part, by contrast, is etched from thin sheet, so there is a real gap between the treads and the stairs look suitably fine at scale. On a ship model it shows immediately, especially on superstructures and on the passages between decks.
The name gives usability across a range roughly from 1:75 to 1:200. The span is wide, so before gluing hold the part up to the place it is to go and compare the width and the height of the treads with their surroundings. In the smaller scales the stairs work more as a suggestion of the shape; in the larger ones they carry detail of their own.
Cut the part from the sheet with a sharp blade on a hard surface, not with nippers, which bend the metal. Level the remains of the tab after cutting with a fine file or sandpaper. Make the bends over a sharp edge, ideally in a bending tool or between the jaws of flat tweezers, and make them in one go, because repeated bending fatigues the metal and it cracks. It is bonded with super glue applied in the tiniest drop, or with two-part epoxy where you need time to seat it. Degrease the part before painting and give it a base coat; on a bare smooth surface the paint holds poorly.
The ship model, paints and glue are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
