Spruce with a trunk 200 mm is a finished handmade conifer from the Czech manufacturer Model Scene — in a diorama all it needs is anchoring and finishing off with its surroundings, with nothing to build and nothing to paint.

This is a finished model conifer, not a kit and not a loose scenery material. The tree arrives complete and painted, with trunk, branching and foliage, and its overall height is roughly 200 mm. Model Scene is a Czech manufacturer of diorama vegetation and makes its trees by hand, so every piece is an original in shape and branching — two trees side by side never look like copies, which is fundamental to the credibility of a scene.
The version with a drawn-out trunk has a noticeably bare lower part and a crown set higher. That is how spruces growing in a closed stand look, where the lower branches have died off for lack of light: inside a forest, at the edge of a mature spruce wood or in a windbreak. A height of 200 mm corresponds in 1:35 scale to roughly a seven-meter tree, in 1:72 to about a fourteen-meter one and in 1:87 to some seventeen meters — so one and the same piece serves as a younger tree in a large scale and as a fully grown spruce in railroad modeling.
Drill a hole in the base to match the wire or peg at the foot of the trunk and glue the tree in with PVA or cyanoacrylate. Hide the transition between trunk and terrain with turf, static grass, leaf litter or fine stones — an uncovered joint gives a model away more reliably than anything else. If you are building a group, vary the heights and lean the trees slightly away from the prevailing wind direction. The coloring can be blended with the surroundings by a light dusting of thinned paint from a greater distance, always on a hidden spot first.
The tree is supplied finished and painted. The glue, the base and any further scenery materials are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
