SPECTRAL BLUE – QUICK GEN COLOR

Spectral Blue – Quick Gen Color

Spectral Blue belongs to the Quick Gen Color acrylic range from AK Interactive. It is a water-thinnable acrylic whose binder sets by the evaporation of water, not by a chemical reaction with a solvent. The shade is a cool blue with a cold cast, which works well wherever the blue should read as icy rather than warm: helmets, shoulder boards, energy effects on gaming models, cold parts of armor. The range is aimed at figures and gaming models, that is at small areas and brush work, but the paint can also be thinned for an airbrush.

Open time on the palette

With an acrylic, most mistakes are made before the brush touches the model. A drop of paint on a dry plastic palette starts to thicken within a few minutes, and as the paint thickens its behavior on the figure changes as well: it flows less well, it forms edges and it brings out brush strokes. The difference between freshly poured paint and paint that has stood on the palette for a quarter of an hour shows in the result. The practical answer is a wet palette, where the paint stays workable considerably longer, or simply small amounts that you can use up. A dried drop can be thinned again with water, but the binder is already weakened and the layer then holds less well.

Use

• Mix and thin it with water or with an acrylic thinner of the same chemistry.
• Pour only small amounts onto the palette, as acrylic thickens quickly in the air.
• A wet palette extends the time for which the paint stays workable.
• Lay thin layers down one after another rather than one thick one.

Who the paint is for

For gamers and modelers who paint figures and gaming models and are looking for a cool blue that reads well on a small area. It also serves for painting details on scale models.
