Pre-cut white film 0.7 mm wide. A complement to area stencils where a boundary has to sit to a tenth of a millimeter.

Seven tenths of a millimeter is the size reached for in two-stage painting. First the strip is laid where the original shade is to stay, the new color is sprayed around it and once it is removed a sharp light stripe is left. The same procedure can be reversed: the strip is stuck down, the area stays untouched and the exposed trace is then colored in by hand.
Combining it with larger stencils is exactly the situation in which this format comes into its own. Wide sheets cover an area, a narrow strip adds the precise boundary that would be hard to cut from a large mask. Cover the ends with a piece of adhesive tape, so that overspray from the side cannot get under them.
The dimension in context: on a tank model in 1:35 it draws a line corresponding to roughly 2.5 cm on the real vehicle, on an aircraft in 1:48 about 3.4 cm, and in 1:72 a full five centimeters. That covers most of the outlining around insignia, around frames and around the divisions between the upper and the lower color.
Preparing the surface: fingerprints contain grease, and grease can reliably decide whether an edge adheres. Wipe the model with a cloth and alcohol before masking and let it air off completely; only then reach for the strip. On matte varnish the film holds noticeably better than on a high gloss.
What to watch out for: the film holds firmly and does not like repeated repositioning; after being stuck down a second time the adhesive picks up dust and the edge stops sealing. Before you start spraying, look at the model against the light and check whether the strip is lifting anywhere. Paint blown under is considerably harder to repair than laying a mask again.
