A fine loose pigment intended for the technique of dusting and dirtying a model. The shade matches light dry soil, that is what settles on a real vehicle or aircraft after driving along a dusty road or standing on a field airstrip. The pigment is applied dry, so it does not bury the surface detail and it can be layered to any density.
Most often on the undersides and chassis of vehicles, on wheels, tracks and fenders, on the boots and lower hem of the clothing of figures and on the terrain of dioramas. On aircraft it suits the landing gear legs and the lower fuselage surfaces. A light shade works well on a model in a dark finish, where the soil deposit is obvious at first glance.
The pigment holds on a flat surface and will not stay on a gloss varnish. Apply it with a soft brush, blend it in and sweep the excess away with a dry brush. Work in thin layers and add more until the deposit looks natural, because taking it away again is difficult. Fix the finished effect with a pigment fixer or with lacquer thinner applied from below toward the edge of the deposit. Expect the shade to darken slightly after fixing.
For the modeler who wants to turn a cleanly painted model into a machine that looks as if it has been in service. Working with the pigment is easy and a mistake can be washed off while it is dry.
