About product

Eduard Zoom photo-etched set 1:48 - Tempest Mk.II (Weekend)

This is an accessory for a kit, not a model of an aircraft. At the Czech firm Eduard the Zoom line is a smaller, pre-painted subset of the full photo-etched set: the parts come printed in color from the factory and with a self-adhesive layer, so they can be fitted without painting and without drawn-out preparation. The designation Weekend in the name specifies which boxing of the kit in 1:48 scale the set is cut for - one type often has several boxes on the market and the photo-etched parts differ between them, so it is worth keeping an eye on.

The real subject

The Hawker Tempest Mk.II was a British single-seat fighter of the late Second World War period. It differs from the better-known Mk.V above all in its powerplant: instead of the liquid-cooled Napier Sabre H-engine it received an air-cooled Bristol Centaurus radial, which goes with a completely different, shorter and fuller nose. The type kept its thin wing with a laminar-flow section. For a modeler it is an interesting counterpart to the more common Tempest with the in-line engine.

Usage tips

Separate the photo-etched parts with a sharp scalpel on a hard surface; do not break them out. Dress any burrs with a fine file. Make the bend in a bending tool or between two blades, and the edge will be sharp. Do not overspray the printed parts and do not clean them with a strong thinner; alcohol is enough to degrease them. The self-adhesive layer holds on smooth plastic, but on larger parts a drop of super glue or an adhesive made for photo-etched parts is useful. Sand away in advance the plastic details that the photo-etched parts replace - otherwise the part will not seat and the gap will show.

Who the set is for

  • Modelers building the Tempest in 1:48 scale who want a quick rise in detail
  • Those who do not feel like painting small photo-etched parts
  • Beginners with photo-etched parts, since Zoom is smaller and more forgiving than the full set
  • Collectors of late-war British subjects

The set holds photo-etched parts only. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package.

FAQ

It is not. It is a photo-etched accessory for a kit in 1:48 scale already bought. The model itself is not included in the package.

It is the name of the boxing of the kit the set is cut for. Check which box you are building before buying.

Zoom is a smaller, pre-painted subset of the full set. It has fewer parts and goes on faster.

The Mk.II version has an air-cooled Bristol Centaurus radial engine and the correspondingly shorter and fuller nose, whereas the Mk.V had the liquid-cooled Napier Sabre H-engine.
