The DSPIAE 2.2 mm tungsten steel drill bit is a single bit for plastic models. The text below sums up what to watch out for before you first put it to a part.
Responsibility details are not available.
A DSPIAE modeling drill bit sold in single diameters. This piece is 2.2 mm and is intended for drilling into the plastic of kits. It is neither a set nor a drill, so you have to provide the drive yourself.
Three mistakes account for most broken bits. The first is poor clamping: if you do not tighten the shank straight, the bit runs out as it turns and the hole comes out larger and oval. The second is levering sideways. A bit of this kind takes pressure along its axis well, but a side load strains it in a way it is not built for, so it breaks before you even notice you are pushing crooked. The third is drilling too close to the edge of a part, where the thin wall cracks before you finish the hole.
A practical procedure: mark a dimple, clamp the bit short so that it projects as little as possible, guide it square to the surface and let the cutting edge do the work. As soon as you feel the bit biting and wanting to spin the part round, ease the pressure and hold the part in your hand or in a vise.
For the beginner buying their first bits outside a set, and for the experienced modeler filling in a particular size.
Sharp tip, keep out of the reach of children. Hold or clamp the part firmly while drilling, and never drill toward your own palm.
