Fujimi Type 97 Chi-Ha with the early turret with a 57 mm gun is a cute distorted kit of the Japanese medium tank in its original form. Playful shortened proportions; this is not a scale model.

This distorted kit from the Japanese manufacturer Fujimi presents the medium tank Type 97 Chi-Ha in its early form with the original turret and the short 57 mm gun. The model is deliberately in no scale: the hull is shortened, the turret and the running gear enlarged, and the result is a likeably chubby silhouette on which you will nonetheless recognize all the typical features of the real tank — the riveted armor, the characteristic turret and the aerial frame.
The Type 97 Chi-Ha entered service at the end of the 1930s and became the backbone of the Japanese tank units. The short 57 mm gun of the early version was intended above all to support infantry against fortifications and machine gun nests, not to duel with tanks. In this original form the Chi-Ha took part in the fighting in China and in the first campaigns in the Pacific, until the later version with the new turret and an anti-tank gun joined it.
Thanks to the low number of parts this is an ideal relaxing build for a single evening. The rounded surfaces of a distorted model are rewarding to brush paint — try the Japanese camouflage in ocher, green and brown with yellow stripes, or leave the model in a single-color playful finish. A fine wash will bring out the rivets and the hatches.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
