Vegetation tends to be the last thing a modeler deals with, and yet it is exactly what decides whether a scene looks alive or like a plastic mock-up. Light Green FS34233 is an acrylic paint from the Italian maker Lifecolor and belongs among the lighter green tones, which are not used in terrain as a continuous area but as a top layer over a darker base. The number given in the name refers to the American Federal Standard color standard.
On a tuft of static grass, on a photo-etched leaf or on the foam mass of a bush, a light green behaves quite differently than on a smooth surface. It settles on the edges, the tips and the crowns and leaves the darker layer beneath lying in the depth between the blades. The growth gains volume that way without your having to paint every single leaf. The same logic applies to moss growing over a stone, a tree stump or the foot of a wall: you apply the shade only where light would fall in reality and leave the rest alone.
It will be appreciated by builders of dioramas and display-case scenes who build terrain in layers from a dark base to light crowns, and by modelers who feel a finished scene is missing one last brightening of the green.
