The base German tank gray Panzergrau Ground Color from the Lifecolor acrylic line is the starting surface for vehicles of the early war period. A dark neutral tone is at the same time the best neighbor for a barrel, an exhaust and the running gear.

Panzergrau is the German tank gray, and this item carries its base position, the tone you start from. On German vehicles it was used in the first years of the Second World War, and for modeling work it is interesting because it is dark, neutral and overrides nothing laid on it.
Metal is built best on a dark neutral base, and that is exactly what this shade is. The barrel, the muffler, the covers above the engine and the running gear separate from the gray hull with even a small shift of tone, so there is no need to reach for metallic paint. A cooler tone shifted toward blue on the barrel and a warmer brownish one on the exhaust create two different metals side by side, even though both lie on the same gray. The difference in the temperature of the shade carries more information here than a difference in lightness, and it is the one thing a silver paint cannot imitate.
For the modeler of early-war German vehicles and for anyone looking for a universal dark neutral gray. Do not forget that gray is the most sensitive of all to the ground: on a smooth glossy base it reads darker and cooler, on a matte grainy surface lighter and softer. If you are building a group of vehicles meant to look uniform, give them the same surface.
