The earthy red tone NATO Earth Red FS30117 from the Lifecolor acrylic line completes the camouflage of postwar vehicles where green and brown alone are not enough.
Responsibility details are not available.
This water-based acrylic paint from the Lifecolor line carries the number of the American Federal Standard directly in its name. Thanks to that you know which shade you are laying into the scheme before you even open the bottle, and you do not have to rely on your eye or on comparing printed charts, which are often shifted by the printing.
Where a brick red has its place in a scheme
The camouflage of NATO army vehicles rests at base on green, brown and black. For drier and stonier settings earthy positions are added to this trio, a sand, an ocher and this brick red. On a large hull area it reads subdued on its own, but the moment it lies beside a cool green it gives the whole a warmth that a brown alone never has. It is exactly this contrast that makes postwar schemes legible even in a small scale.
Always stir the contents of the bottle properly so that the pigment is evenly dispersed. On a vehicle, lead the boundaries against the green and the black softly; postwar patterns have misted transitions, not edges set out with a ruler. On small parts it pays to work in thin coats and to let each one harden properly before the next comes.
For modelers who build vehicles from the second half of the twentieth century and want their scheme based on a documented standard number rather than on a guess. It also serves diorama builders well as an earthy tone for terrain.
Work in a well-ventilated room and keep the paint out of the reach of children.
