Freedom Model Kits U.S. Navy MH-60R Sea Hawks is a caricature plastic kit of the carrier helicopter of the US Navy in the egg models style, that is, with no scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
A plastic kit from the group of so-called egg models, that is, deliberately shortened and stocky caricatures of real machines. The fuselage is compressed into an egg shape, but the characteristic features of the subject — the rotor, the tail boom and the weapon pylons — stay recognizable. The model has no scale, because the proportions are stylized.
The MH-60R is a carrier multi-purpose helicopter of the US Navy derived from the Sikorsky S-70 family. It serves above all for anti-submarine and anti-surface search, for search and rescue and for replenishment between ships. It operates from the decks of destroyers, cruisers and aircraft carriers, where a folding rotor and a folding tail boom are essential for stowage in the hangar.
Egg models build quickly, so this is a rewarding project for an evening or two and a rest between more demanding kits. Cut the parts off carefully, though; on stocky shapes every remnant of a sprue gate shows at once. Choose fairly clean, deep colors, as a caricature lives on them. If you want to recall the real machine, reach for the naval gray combination and add only suggested accentuation of the panels, not full weathering. Lay the decals over a gloss clear coat and even the surface out with a matte one at the end.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
