VERDE MIMETICO

The color

Verde Mimetico is a shade from the range of the manufacturer Mr.Paint, carried under the designation MRP326. The Italian name translates as camouflage green, and shades with this name go with Italian camouflage schemes, where green stands alongside yellow and brown tones. Judge the actual rendering against the manufacturer's color chart; the way a color shows on a screen always differs somewhat from a dried finish, and within the same range several shades with similar names differ from each other only slightly.

Thinning and application

Choose the thinner, the thinning ratio and the recommended method of application according to the manufacturer's instructions on the package, and use the thinner intended for this range. Mixing with thinners from other ranges does not pay off, as the binder may curdle and the finish will then look grainy. Shake the bottle thoroughly before use, since the pigment settles at the bottom when standing. Apply several thin coats rather than one heavy one and let each dry properly. Work in a well-ventilated space and try a new shade first on a piece of scrap plastic rather than straight on the model.

Painting tips

• level the surface and put down a base color; green shades let the ground show through
• the boundaries of camouflage fields look more believable when they are not perfectly sharp
• bring large areas to life by lightening the centers of the panels
• apply masking tape only onto a properly cured finish
• compare the shade against the manufacturer's color chart before applying it
