Four shades for painting a magenta plasma glow on tabletop gaming figures: wine red, magenta, deep pink and pastel yellow.
Responsibility details are not available.
The light that comes out of the barrel of a plasma weapon or from a crystal set into armor cannot be created on a figure in any way but by painting. The method rests on a simple idea: the closer to the source, the lighter and less saturated the tone, and the further away, the more the glow moves into a dark, deep color. This foursome is put together for exactly that gradient in the magenta range.
The paints are meant for small figures, so they have a high pigment content and cover even in a thin coat on a small area. They are thinned with water and suit hand painting with a fine brush.
Darken the areas around the light source in advance so that the glow has something to shine into; on a light base it gets lost. Work from the darkest tone to the lightest and lay every further coat over a smaller area than the one before. At the end, pick out the core with an almost white touch of the pastel yellow. The lighting has to match a single source: if the weapon is glowing, the light falls on the hand, the chest and the chin, never on the back. It is consistency in that one rule that separates a figure that looks lit from one that just has colored patches. The same foursome can be used the other way round as well, for a cool magenta cast in the shadows of white armor. Simply thin the paint a great deal and lay it only into the recesses, where the surrounding light would be reflected.
