Waterslide Decals - Classic Tundra Camo

Waterslide Decals Classic Tundra Camo - winter camouflage decals

This sheet from Green Stuff World is not a paint, not a sticker and not a finished model. It is a printed film of water-soaked decals with a classic camouflage pattern in tundra, that is cool light tones with gray and darker markings. It is used where spraying camouflage by hand would be laborious, or where several models need to have exactly the same pattern. The size of the sheet and the number of designs are stated by the manufacturer on the packaging.

Softener and shaped surfaces

Winter patterns are often applied to the large unbroken surfaces of a hull and a turret, where even small mistakes stand out. The surface therefore has to be smooth and glossy. On an area with rivets, engraved lines and hatches, use a decal softener: it is applied with a brush onto a film already in place, which softens for a while, clings to the relief and once dry looks sprayed on. Do not touch the film while the softener is working, or it will tear. On markedly convex places a small nick with a razor blade also helps to keep the film from rippling.

Where the sheet comes into its own

The pattern suits winter and northern scenes, vehicles and containers in snow camouflage, wargaming models and diorama accessories. It combines well with winter weathering - once it is dry and sealed, the surface can be given diffuse gray streaking, dust and a hint of salt staining.

Who the sheet is for

For modelers who do not have an airbrush or do not want to do complicated masking, for wargamers who need the same pattern across a whole unit, and for diorama builders working on winter settings.

The decals are not a paint. A softener and gloss and matte coats are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
