Tamiya X-31 Titanium Gold (Enamel) - Metallic Paint, 10 ml

A paint from the Tamiya enamel (synthetic, solvent-based) range in a 10 ml bottle. It is a metallic paint - it contains metal pigments that give the surface a warm, titanium gold metallic sheen between gold and a bronze champagne. The X range means a gloss finish.

What it is and what it is not

It IS: a covering metallic shade with visible metal particles. It is NOT: a transparent tinting varnish (like the Clear shades) and not a bright yellow storybook gold - X-31 is a more restrained, metallically warm tone. Take care not to confuse it with the acrylic version of the same X-31 number, which exists alongside it. This item is the ENAMEL one: it is thinned with X-20 thinner (the enamel one, without the A), not with the acrylic X-20A.

• Engine and exhaust parts with heat discoloration - heat-tinted titanium and stainless steel.
• Brake discs and other metal components (the typical use stated by the manufacturer).
• Fittings, ornamental elements, decorative trim and accessories.
• Science fiction and fantasy models and figures - armor, mechanical detail, accents.

Working with Metallic Paint - What to Watch Out For

• Stir it thoroughly. The metal pigment settles to the bottom of the bottle; without proper stirring you will apply nothing but binder with no metallic effect. Keep stirring while you work.
• A smooth base. A metallic paint mercilessly emphasizes marks, scratches and sanding traces - the smoother and glossier the base, the better the metal look.
• Leave it to the end. A metallic surface is harder to overspray and harder to mask (adhesive tape can damage the layer), so apply it as one of the last steps.
• Suitable for airbrush and brush; for spraying, thin it with Tamiya X-20 thinner. Thin coats give a more even metal than one heavy one.

For modelers of cars, motorcycles and aircraft who need realistic metal detail, and for builders of science fiction models and figures. Because of what it demands of the base, moderately advanced modelers will appreciate it most.
