Tamiya X-8 Lemon Yellow 23 ml — Gloss Acrylic Lemon Yellow

X-8 Lemon Yellow is a modeling paint, not a kit. It comes in a jar with a volume of 23 ml and belongs to Tamiya's acrylic range — it is water-thinnable and is thinned for airbrush use with thinner X-20A. Do not confuse it with the enamel (solvent-based) version of the same shade number, which uses thinner X-20 without the letter A. The prefix X means a gloss finish (matte shades carry the XF prefix). The shade is a cool, bright lemon yellow — lighter and less orange than a classic middle yellow.

Use

• Warning areas and markings — hazard stripes, danger spots on equipment, airport ground equipment.
• Aircraft identification bands and other conspicuous recognition areas.
• Racing liveries for cars and motorcycles, sponsor and race numbers.
• Small details and highlight elements on dioramas and figures.

How to work with it

• Yellow covers worse than dark shades — use a white base. On a gray or dark base the yellow will look dirty and need many coats.
• Apply several thin coats; let each dry, or the pigment will blend and lose its brightness.
• Suitable for airbrush and brush; for airbrush use, thin it with X-20A.
• A gloss surface is a good base for decals — it prevents silvering. A matte surface, by contrast, causes decals to silver, so the matte varnish is applied only after decals, as the last layer.
