Operation Zitadelle was the German offensive operation in the area of the Kursk salient in July 1943. From a modeling point of view it is one of the most frequently covered subjects of the Second World War, because practically the whole generation of German and Soviet armored vehicles of the day met in it. In the fighting of the summer of 1943 what chiefly counts is color and markings — the dark yellow base with field-applied patches, tactical numbers, identification markings and above all heavy dusty patina. Picture documentation is the best support for deciding how to paint a vehicle and how far to go with dust and mud so that the model stays believable. It serves just as well when building a diorama, where the terrain and the relative placement of the vehicles have to be settled.
