1:1000 K-S 3 U lesa is a miniature model of a structure of the Czechoslovak heavy fortifications in 1:1000 scale from ROP o.s., following on from an extensive range of individual fortress works.

A miniature model of a particular structure of the Czechoslovak border fortifications in 1:1000 scale. The point of this range is not a detailed display piece but the chance to have a whole sector together: in this scale a continuous part of the defensive line, including the gaps between the structures, fits on a board of A4 size, which larger scales put out of the question. Every item of the range matches one real, particularly named structure.
The abbreviation K-S marks the Kraliky sector, and the number after it the order of the structure within the sector. The cover name U lesa, meaning by the forest, is a period designation the work received during construction in the second half of the 1930s; the names were derived from the nearest terrain or landscape landmark, which is a clue to this day as to where the structure stands in the field. The structures were built in the line so that they could see one another and cover one another with fire; neighboring numbers of the range therefore belong together in space.
Work in 1:1000 scale is above all a matter of restraint. Clean and degrease the casting and apply the base in a thin coat with a spray can or an airbrush; a brush would leave a visible texture at this size. Make the concrete lighter than you expect; a dark wash and fine dry brushing of the edges will draw the shape of the structure out better than a saturated color. Handle the greenery with shades of static grass in the finest length available and replace bushes with a fine foam flock. If you place the model on a board shared with other pieces of the range, even the shade of the terrain out across all the parts at once; otherwise the group will fall apart in color even if it is geographically correct.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
