A kit of the Yamaha YZR500 racing motorcycle with the works designation OW98 in the Tech 21 color scheme from the 1988 season, 1:12 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Yamaha YZR500 was a works racing motorcycle of the most powerful circuit class of the day, up to 500 cc. The OW98 designation is the internal works marking of a particular form, and the Tech 21 color scheme belongs to the 1988 season. It is precisely the Tech 21 color scheme that is among the most memorable ever to appear on a racing Yamaha, and it tends to be the main reason modelers reach for this very form. The year 1988 in the name identifies the season to which the scheme belongs.
This is a kit in 1:12 scale, which is well established for motorcycles: the finished model is around twenty centimeters long and will carry really fine detail of the frame, the brakes and the suspension. The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted; the survey of parts and the order of the steps are given in the manufacturer's instructions.
With a motorcycle the order of the work is reversed compared with an airplane or a car: a large part of the components is painted before it is joined at all, because the frame and the engine are hard to reach later. Lay the painting out in advance, therefore, and set the painted parts aside separately. The bodywork deserves a smooth base, otherwise every unevenness will stand out. Apply glue sparingly; on small parts very little is enough. Wash and degrease the parts before painting.
Paints, glue, filler and other modeling accessories are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
