A resin accessory for building the narrow-body Airbus in 1:144 scale. The set replaces the engine nacelle from a kit with a casting with a more accurate leading ring and rendering of the cowling. It does not hold a model of the aircraft; it is counted on as a replacement for a part.
The CFM56-5A was the original powerplant of the A320 family. It is a turbofan engine with a high bypass ratio, in which most of the thrust arises in the cold stream passing around the core, unlike the older narrow engines, where almost the whole flow went through the core. For the modeler the most interesting thing is how this engine differs in installation from the equally large competitor on the older generation of the Boeing 737. The Airbus has its wing set higher and a longer landing gear, so a full circular nacelle without any flattening of the lower part fitted under the wing. The intake is therefore round, which is recognized immediately when seen from the front and is one of the quickest ways to tell the two types apart. The nacelle hangs on a pylon extended ahead of the leading edge and slightly inclined, so the axis of the engine does not follow the axis of the fuselage.
Wash the mold release agent off the casting, and only then cut. Remove the pour blocks with a saw and protect the leading ring of the intake; its thin sharp edge is the best seen on the model and is easily rounded off by coarse sanding. Resin sands differently from plastic, material goes faster and because of the dust it has to be sanded wet. Gluing with super glue; polystyrene cement has no effect. Before gluing, check the angle of the nacelle in relation to the pylon dry; with an installation extended ahead of the wing a deviation shows from every angle. Paint the inside of the intake and the cone beforehand.
The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted, as a resin casting for more experienced modelers. Glue, paints and a base kit are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
