An injection-molded plastic kit of a large American transport aircraft in 1:144 scale, completed by a PGM-17 Thor missile. It is precisely that combination that gives the box its point: the C-133 was one of the few machines able to carry a missile of such dimensions whole and in one piece. The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted.
The Douglas C-133 Cargomaster was a heavy strategic transport aircraft with a high-wing layout, four turboprop engines and a rear loading ramp. The cargo hold ran uninterrupted along the whole length of the fuselage, which made it possible to load bulky and indivisible loads — among them ballistic missiles. The A version is the first production form. The PGM-17 Thor was an American intermediate-range ballistic missile of the late 1950s, single-stage in design and transported both by land and by air. Together, then, the model captures a logistic pair, not a combat scene.
In 1:144 scale the main work is in cleanliness. The propeller blades are thin and break off easily, so leave them on the sprue as long as possible. The fuselage of a large aircraft has long seams — reckon with filling and sanding, after which the engraved panel lines have to be restored. Mask the glazing of the pilot's cabin and the rows of side windows before spraying; a liquid mask suits the small windows. Metal surfaces look better over a smooth, well polished base. Lay the decals onto gloss varnish and secure them with a decal softener so that they settle into the engraving. Build and paint the missile separately and attach it only at the end.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
