A resin replacement for the engine nacelle of an MD-90 model in 1:144 scale. The set replaces the plastic parts of the base kit and does not form a model on its own. The number of pieces in the package is stated on the box; the MD-90 carries two engines.
The V2500 is a turbofan with a high bypass ratio, developed by an international consortium of manufacturers. You will most often come across it under the wing of aircraft of the A320 family, but the MD-90 is an exception: it carries it on short pylons on the sides of the rear fuselage. The installation therefore looks different from the one on the Airbus, it has a differently shaped cowling and a different layout of the rear section with thrust reversers, and above all a different mounting geometry. For the MD-90 variants of this engine family with higher thrust than on the first A320s were used, which is visible in the fuller shape of the nacelle.
Wash the casting, cut off the casting block and level the mating surface on abrasive paper. Dry-fit the pylon first: a resin nacelle tends to have a different wall thickness from a plastic one, so it is the pylon that is shortened or packed out, not the nacelle. Glue with cyanoacrylate glue, or with epoxy if you need time to fine-tune the angle. Check the symmetry looking both from above and from behind, as with a rear installation a deviation is more conspicuous than with engines under the wing. Paint the intake and the inner wall of the cowling before you close the nacelle up. A smooth, well polished base suits the cowling, because airline liveries are often plain and glossy on the nacelles, so they reveal every unevenness.
The set is supplied as a resin accessory, unpainted. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
