Pmask 1:24 Hawker Typhoon Mk.Ib, a masking set

A Pmask masking set in the large 1:24 scale for a model of the British Hawker Typhoon Mk.Ib fighter-bomber. It is not a kit but an accessory for painting: the masks are cut to the shape of the clear parts of the Airfix kit. In 1:24 scale the cockpit parts are large and any inaccuracy in the masking leaps out, so a precisely die-cut template makes the most sense here.

Use

• Wash the glazing in lukewarm soapy water and let it dry without wiping it with a cloth.
• Lay the masks with tweezers, working gradually from one edge so that no bubbles form under them.
• Press the whole perimeter down with a blunt tip, because on large surfaces paint that has crept under is impossible to miss.
• Spray the frames with the interior color first, then with the outer shade.
• Take the masks off shortly after the finish has dried, pulling across the edge.

The real subject

The Hawker Typhoon Mk.Ib was a British single-engine fighter that made its name above all as a fighter-bomber for attacks on ground targets. It was powered by a strong piston engine and carried heavy gun armament, and besides that it could also carry external stores under the wing. Among other things, the Mk.Ib version differed from the earlier form in the treatment of the cockpit and the armament.
