This is not a model of the ship but an aftermarket accessory to a plastic kit in 1:700 scale. The package holds a veneer deck with a self-adhesive base and with the printed laying of the planks. Because the same deck is made in a version for another kit of the same ship as well, choosing correctly matters: this set is cut for the Fujimi 431123 kit. The difference between the variants lies in the adaptation of the shape to a particular kit.
The Yamashiro was a Japanese battleship of the Fuso class, a sister ship of the lead unit of the same name. The main armament consisted of 356 mm guns. After the interwar rebuilds she gained a tall multi-level superstructure, typical of Japanese battleships of that time.
Veneer looks best when the gaps between the planks are brought out lightly. Use a very thin wash or an oil paint rubbed into the grooves and wipe the excess off with a cloth in the direction of the planks, never across, or a dirty smear will arise. Work only after the gluing has fully cured and after the surface has possibly been sealed with varnish, so that the liquid does not soak into the veneer over the whole area. Restraint is essential: in 1:700 scale a hint is enough, and exaggerated contrast of the deck turns a model into a toy.
This is an accessory to a plastic kit, not a model of the ship. The kit itself, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
