An injection-molded plastic kit of the racing Toyota Corolla Levin of the AE101 generation in the Kawasho team scheme, in 1:24 scale from the Japanese maker Hasegawa. It is an unassembled and unpainted model for a classic build in plastic, completed with a decal sheet carrying the sponsor finish of a particular racing car. The body is worked out as a competition specification, that is with aerodynamic parts and a racing interior, not as a production road coupe.
The Corolla Levin of the AE101 generation was built in the first half of the 1990s as the sporting variant of the Toyota Corolla with front-wheel drive and a transversely mounted four-cylinder engine. In competition form under the group rules it started in the Japanese touring car championship, where it was among the light and agile cars of the lower capacity class. It was precisely against markedly more powerful cars of the higher classes that these small Japanese coupes won a reputation as reliable and fast machines which routinely appeared very high up at the finish. The Kawasho finish is among the schemes that are easy to recognize from the Japanese circuits of the period.
It is advisable to rid the body thoroughly of mold seams and to degrease it before lacquering. For a rich racing shade a white base coat works well, with the color over it and finally a gloss clear coat, on which decals sit nicely. Choose a varnish compatible with the paint used, so that the base is not attacked. Lay the decals with the sponsor lettering on in sections with a softener, so that they settle onto the edges and the pressings. Once dry, add a second coat of varnish, which hides the edges of the decals. For the plastic use a thin cement for plastic, and on chromed parts first remove the plating where the joint will be.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
