This injection-molded plastic kit in 1:24 scale from Tamiya captures the Mazda MX-5 RF — the version of the popular roadster with a retractable hardtop. RF stands for Retractable Fastback, that is a roof ending in an elegant fastback tail that can be folded away. The model can be built with the roof closed or open, with parts for left-hand and right-hand drive and in the specification for Japan, the USA or Europe.
The Mazda MX-5 is the best-selling two-seat roadster in history and its current generation sticks to the proven recipe: a light body, rear-wheel drive and balanced handling. The RF version adds a retractable hardtop with a striking fastback silhouette, which turns the open car into an elegant coupe at the touch of a button. The top trim level adds sports seats and alloy wheels from a premium brand.
The rounded body of the roadster is a rewarding surface for a good finish — work through a primer and a gloss clear coat. Decide in advance whether you will build the model with the roof closed or open, as it affects the assembly sequence. Paint the detailed interior and the chassis with its suspension before you close the body. Add the metal transfers for the emblems and mirrors and the synthetic tires with their faithful tread at the end.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
