An unassembled injection-molded plastic kit of a circuit car in 1:24 scale from the Japanese manufacturer Hasegawa. This boxing is not a general release of the civilian Corolla Levin but is tied to a particular racing machine: the car in the Minolta sponsor livery from the 1988 season of the Japanese Touring Car Championship. The sponsor and the year are the distinguishing detail here, because the manufacturer releases a number of other racing variants of the same body.
The AE92 generation Corolla Levin was built from the middle of the 1980s as a compact coupe with the engine at the front and front-wheel drive. In touring car racing trim it became one of the typical machines of the smaller capacity classes of the Japanese championship, where it relied on low weight and high revs instead of large displacement. Racing versions are recognizable from the production car by their added aerodynamics, wider wheels, a roll cage in the interior and of course the sponsor livery, which on circuit cars of the late 1980s makes up a substantial part of the appearance.
On a racing car the result stands or falls on the decals. Spray the body over a primer, let the finish cure and coat it with gloss varnish before the decals. Settle the large sponsor decals with plenty of water, step by step and with a softener, so that they draw down onto the edges and transitions. Another gloss overcoat follows, which sinks the decals in and removes the step at their edge. Paint the interior with its roll cage in a matte finish, and finish the wheels and tires separately. Choose the weathering sparingly, as circuit cars tended to be clean at the start.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
