This item is not a model and not an aircraft kit — it is an accessory that is added to your own kit. The package contains fifty resin turnbuckles for bracing wires in 1:24 scale, that is in the largest of the commonly built scales for First World War aircraft. The designation Type C corresponds to one of the forms in the manufacturer's range; when choosing, go by the shape of the fitting on the subject you are building.

Painting small fittings

Turnbuckles are among the parts that the paint decides. The metal fittings on a real machine were not uniformly glossy: they had a dark, rather weathered shade and bare metal always showed through at the points of contact. On a model a dark metallic base works well, followed once it has dried by a light wash into the recesses and finally a dry brush on the edges. Highly glossy chrome, by contrast, looks unconvincing in a large scale. Stir pigment paints with a metallic effect thoroughly before use, as the metallic pigment settles to the bottom.

Working with resin step by step

Wash the castings in lukewarm water with detergent to remove the mold release agent. Cut the casting block off with a new blade and level the remainder with a file; sand wet and with respiratory protection. Fit the turnbuckle onto the wire before you glue it on, and glue it with cyanoacrylate glue. Drill the holes for the anchoring while the kit parts are still separate, when they are easier to handle.
