An injection-molded plastic kit in 1:24 scale from the Japanese manufacturer Fujimi, out of its line of trucks. The combination is made up of the Mitsubishi Fuso FV tractor with a high cab and a trailer intended for carrying passenger cars. It is a sizable project: thanks to the length of the trailer the finished model is substantially larger than an ordinary car kit in the same scale. The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted.
Mitsubishi Fuso is among the traditional Japanese makers of utility vehicles and trucks. The FV line represented heavy tractors intended for long-distance transport, on which a high cab was used for the sake of resting space for the crew. Car transporters, that is, trailers with several tiers of loading decks and folding ramps, are among the striking representatives of road transport in Japan — hauliers often decorated them with chromed accessories and rich livery. It is precisely this combination of utility and conspicuous decoration that makes Japanese truck combinations a popular modeling theme.
An extensive combination is best built by sub-assemblies: the frame of the tractor with the drive train separately, the cab separately and the tiered structure of the trailer separately. It pays to keep checking that the frame stays straight and that the wheels sit in one plane — on a long trailer every deviation shows. Paint the cab separately from the chassis and polish it before finishing, because large smooth areas will reveal every unevenness. Do not use aggressive thinners on the chromed parts; if you want to rid them of the coating and spray them again, test the procedure on a spare part. A model of this size will also call for carefully thought-out space for display and handling — it is practical to leave the trailer and the tractor separable.
