The Mach 5 is the racing car of the hero of an animated series that became famous in its English version under the name Speed Racer. The car has a white body, a prominent red letter on the hood and a low aerodynamic nose with a pronounced curved windshield, thanks to which it looks dynamic even standing still in a cabinet. The car has no real subject; its form grows out of ideas about the racing specials of the 1960s.
It is a plastic kit in 1:25 scale, which is the usual one for American car models. The finished car therefore matches the size of other models at this scale. The number of parts, the treatment of the interior and the extent of the enclosed decal sheet differ between individual releases; what is binding is always the instruction sheet enclosed in the box.
White forgives little, so sand the body carefully before painting and smooth the joints, as every scratch will show once the finish is on. Wash the parts in lukewarm soapy water, let them dry and lay the finish on in thin coats over a light base. The red elements come out best when you apply them over the dried white with the help of masking tape. Fit the clear parts at the end and glue them with a glue that will not cloud them.
The kit will please collectors of film and television vehicles as well as car modelers looking for something other than a production car for the cabinet. Paints, clear coats, glue and tools are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
