M16A3, a collector model in 1:3 scale, Easy Model

A scaled-down collector model of the M16A3 assault rifle in 1:3 scale. The model is finished, assembled and painted already at the factory, so building and painting both fall away. It is not a functional weapon, it does not fire and it is intended exclusively for display or as a reference piece for modelers.

The real subject

The M16A3 is a variant of the American 5.56 mm assault rifle that is based on the A2 standard and differs above all in a different arrangement of the trigger mechanism. In design it follows on from the proven layout with the barrel and the stock on the same axis, a carrying handle and a receiver of light alloy. Against the older versions it has a more robust barrel and revised sights. This version was used in smaller numbers than the widespread A2, which makes it an interesting addition to a collection charting the development of the whole family of weapons.

Workmanship and a place in a collection

Reduced to 1:3 it is a desk exhibit substantially larger than the usual modeling miniatures, on which the layout of the whole weapon is clearly legible. It shows best lying flat in a shallow display case or on a shelf, or beside other examples of the same range, where the gradual development of the shape is nicely visible. Remove the dust with a soft dry brush and avoid a cloth, because it catches on the sights and small projections. Do not use solvents or oils. Do not expose the exhibit to direct sun and keep it out of the reach of children, as it is not a toy.
