Die-cut self-adhesive masks intended for painting the wheel bays of the Messerschmitt Bf 109 fighter in the F-2 and F-4 versions in 1:32 scale. It is not a model or a spare part but an aid to painting: the mask holds the boundary between the shade of the inside of the bay and the surrounding finish. The number of masks and the extent of the coverage are stated on the manufacturer's packaging.
The quality of a masked edge is not decided when the mask is applied but when the paint is sprayed. A heavy coat of paint builds a ridge at the edge of the mask that stays as an edge you can feel once the mask is off and casts a shadow of its own in sharp light. That is why you spray in several thin passes at lower pressure, not all at once to full coverage. Hold the airbrush perpendicular to the edge and at a sensible distance; spraying from close up and at an angle blows the paint under the edge and emphasizes the ridge at the same time. If you can still feel the edge once the mask is off, it can be softened with a fine sanding sponge and oversprayed with a covering coat.
First spray the inside of the bay and let the paint cure, then mask and spray the outer finish. Compared with the E series the F version brought an aerodynamically cleaner wing and a revised landing gear arrangement, but masking the bays themselves goes the same way as on the other Bf 109s. Paint the gear doors separately from the fuselage, otherwise they are hard to reach once assembled.
The package contains masks only. The kit, the paints and the glue are not included in the delivery.
