A photo-etched set from the Czech manufacturer Eduard intended for the exterior surface of a model of the American Curtiss P-40F Warhawk fighter in 1:32 scale. The exterior designation means that the set deals with the external elements of the airframe, that is the surfaces and fittings visible from outside, unlike sets aimed at the cockpit. It is an aftermarket accessory to a base model, not a stand-alone kit.
The Curtiss P-40 was an American single-engine fighter used in the Second World War across a broad range of theaters. The P-40F differs from the earlier forms in its powerplant, because instead of an Allison engine it received a license-built Packard V12 derived from the British Merlin. That showed in the shape of the nose as well, above all in the absence of the upper air intake behind the propeller. This is precisely why aftermarket sets for the P-40F cannot be interchanged with sets for other P-40 versions.
Exterior photo-etched parts are fitted only after the seams have been filled and sanded, as you would otherwise damage them while finishing the surface. Glue the thin grilles and covers with cyanoacrylate applied in a minimal amount; any excess turns white and shows on a finished surface. If the set holds parts for flaps or panels, decide in advance whether you want to show them extended or retracted, because changing it later is laborious. Before painting, degrease the metal and go over it with primer so that the transition between metal and plastic does not show in the finished paintwork.
This is an accessory, not a kit. The base model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
