A set of resin weighted wheels for the American Grumman F-14A Tomcat carrier-based fighter in 1:32 scale from Whelliant. It is not an airplane model but precisely cast detail parts that replace the plastic wheels from the base kit with wheels whose lower tire section is realistically flattened under load.
The F-14 Tomcat was a twin-engine carrier-based fighter of the US Navy with a variable-sweep wing and a crew of two, used for the defense of carrier battle groups. A parked aircraft presses down on its tires with its own weight, so they flatten at the bottom and bulge slightly to the sides. The weighted wheels have this deformation faithfully cast in, so that a model standing on its landing gear looks as though it really were standing on the ground.
Resin parts call for more careful preparation: wash them in lukewarm soapy water to remove any release residue, separate them carefully from the casting block and bond them with super glue (cyanoacrylate); protect your airways when sanding. Fit the wheels so that the flattened face sits flat on the base, paint the hubs separately from the tires and blend the tread with a fine dust pigment.
The part is supplied as a resin accessory, unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and the base kit are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
