Two Bobs issues decals in themed series, and Feline Hornets is one of them — it brings together the markings of squadrons whose nicknames refer to the cat family. This sheet is devoted to squadron VFA-131 Wildcats on the single-seat Hornet. The package holds decals exclusively; the modeler obtains the plastic kit in 1:32 scale himself.
The F/A-18C is the single-seat variant of the Hornet, a twin-engine carrier aircraft able to fill both fighter and attack duties. The gray low-visibility finish that took hold in carrier aviation from the 1980s reduces the prominence of markings to a minimum — which makes machines with colored highlights on the fin surfaces and on the radome all the more conspicuous, the ones squadrons traditionally reserve for commanders' aircraft.
The water for the decals should be lukewarm, not hot — hot water releases the adhesive too quickly and the film then seats badly on the model. Never soak the whole sheet; cut and soak one element at a time. The fin surfaces of the Hornet are flat, so there is usually no trouble there; the difficulty is rather the transition onto the curved radome and the edges of the air intakes, where it is advisable to help with a cotton swab and mild pressure once it has dried. If a bubble appears under the film, pierce it with the point of a scalpel and put a drop of decal softener over the puncture. Finally clear coat the whole model, so that the decals are not held by their own adhesive alone.
These are decals, not a kit. The model, paints and glue are not included in the package.
